Success of prostatectomy with the assistance of the da Vinchi surgical system
Urological surgeons at Kobe University School of Medicine succeeded in robotic prostatectomy with the assistance of the da Vinchi surgical system that was introduced to the Kobe University Hospital in August 2010. The da Vinchi surgical system is the robotic surgical platform. To perform the procedure, a surgeon uses the console's controls to maneuver forceps and scalpels attached to the robotic arm under the endoscope. The instrumentsf jointed-wrist design exceeds the natural range of motion of the human hand; motion scaling and tremor reduction further interpret and refine the surgeonfs hand movements.
